The Durbar medal was produced in large numbers for distribution to important participants in the celebrations, and also for notables who had not been able to attend. It has the heads of the Emperor and Empress on the obverse, and on the reverse, along with the English legend, a Persian chronogram yielding the year of the succession – ‘Darbar-i-Jarj-i-panjum Qaysar-i-Hind, Padishah-u-Malik-i-diyar-i-Ingliz’, translated as ‘Durbar of George V, Emperor of India, Lord and Master of the British lands.’
For the 1911 Durbar, 26,800 silver medals were handed out. A hundred gold medals were awarded to all the rulers of the princely states and the highest-ranking government officials.
