The new capital city announced during the durbar was finally built at Raisina and named New Delhi. This early plan also shows a Kingsway connecting what was in effect an ‘imperial camp’–Viceroy’s House and the Secretariats –to an amphitheatre at the other end. Some changes were eventually made in this plan. The amphitheatre was moved eastwards, eliminating the reservoir. The war memorial arch was built at the spot vacated by the amphitheatre. The university campus planned within the city would not be built.
