The shrine to Hidimba Devi, a demon goddess who was married to Bhima, one of the five Pandava brothers in the Mahabharata, has a temple dedicated to her that is located in Manali surrounded by cedar forests. Latika Katt’s invocation to her as a jungle deity is accentuated by the root-like forms over which she rises like a primal figure. The orange colour denoting the goddess, the totemic simplicity of the form, and repetitive patterns result in a work that is a nod to the sculptor’s ability to merge content with context.
