An illustrated talk by Siddhesh Gautam, author of 'The Blue Book', on interrogating the colonial archive and caste as a visual category by revisiting typification and self-representation.

Working across illustration, text, and visual narratives, Siddhesh Gautam is a multi-discipline, mixed-media artist, designer, writer, and poet. His work is focused on the visual documentation of India’s anti-caste movement, while also engaging with questions of climate justice and gender equality.

Curated by Sudeshna Guha, Typecasting: Photographing the Peoples of India, 1855-1920, showcases one of the largest collections of colonial ethnographic photographs of the diverse peoples of India, spanning geographies and cultures.
