At the official garden party of the durbar, King George V and Queen Mary dressed in full regalia appeared before their subjects at the same window at the Red Fort in which the Mughals used to appear before their subjects, following a custom known as jharoka darshan. A crowd of nearly half a million people assembled to catch a glimpse of the newly proclaimed Emperor and Empress of India.
