Chhatu Babu Latu Babu Thakur Bari (Ramdulal Nibas)

The first public viewing of Jolgodhika—Aranya Sengupta’s illustrated letterpress book, written by Soumyadip Ray with a preface by Shibaji Bandyopadhyay—displayed alongside antiquarian books showcasing the evolution of Bengali book production, accompanied by a print setup where visitors can collect their own versions of the original woodcuts used in the book.

Aranya Sengupta is a Kolkata–Santiniketan-based printmaker and book-artist holding a BFA and MFA in Graphic Art (Printmaking) from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, where he is currently pursuing a PhD in History of Art. His practice extends printmaking beyond galleries through Artist's Books, participatory zines, and graphic scrolls that explore politics of narrative, memory, and material. He has exhibited at Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi (2025–26), Gallery Espace, New Delhi (2022), and the 41st Daegu International Art Exhibition, South Korea (2021). He has produced five Artist's Books for the India Foundation for the Arts and Sony Pictures Entertainment funded book series (2022–23) and regularly conducts workshops and lectures nationally. Sengupta publishes on book history and bookmaking in journals including Harappa – Likhan Chitran, Haraphcharcha, and 1778: Granthacharcha.

This programme is a public outcome of Aranya Sengupta's fine press book project, presented as part of 'Notun Shilpo Boi: Jolgodhika'—DAG's 2026 edition of its contemporary artist commission series, 'Points of Departure'. Open to all
