Boats for yonder land

In this print titled Boats for Yonder Land, a couple making boats to sail away to greener pastures are the protagonists, shown busy making paper boats which would take them to lands of prosperity beyond the seas. However, it’s the burning Taj Mahal hotel of Mumbai in the background that catches the eye. The terror attack on Mumbai on 26 November 2008, which saw thick fumes emanating from the cupola of the hotel for several days on stretch, left an indelible mark on Indians, while the image itself has endured as a grisly memento of attack on the country. The couple seems impervious to the mayhem in the background, focused as it is on its personal future.
