Birds Paradise (No. 1)

In Devayani Krishna’s Birds Paradise No. 1, suspended from what appear like the blades of a pair of scissors are hooks, wires—and a hoopoe bird’s nest. Marked by strips, the nest resembles something industrial, and the whole notion of home raises questions of society’s concerns about a place to call one’s own in a mechanical world. This layered work presents the high level of dexterity the artist achieved in printmaking, lending it luminosity, characteristic of her paintings.
