The Cloud

This pointillist drawing by Prabhakar Barwe is a stunning example of minimalism and fine draughtsmanship, and deftly brings focus on the chief subject of the work—a cloud that has drifted over a countryside prominently marked by hillocks. Though there are quite a few points of entry into the work—hillocks, stupa-like structures on the hillocks, trees lining the boundary of a prominent structure that resembles a granary—it is the cloud and its shadow on the earth that first draw attention. The sole entity in the sky, with a peculiar tail-like protrusion, immediately changes the perspective of an otherwise placid landscape through its very presence.
