This Untitled assortment of incongruous shapes by Prabhakar Barwe, juxtaposed to create an intriguing picture, is as much a study of space and objects, as it is of the role of colour in defining the art work. In his 1990 book Kora Canvas, Barwe talks at length of ‘the essence of colour’. He says: ‘A single form in a pure colour is capable of balancing any number of forms in muted shades. In the midst of these pale, blurred colour shades, the pure colour stands like a proud stag with elegant horns amidst a herd of deer.’ The bird at the bottom, with its pure, dark colour, provides a context to other forms and pale colours.
