Altaf did several face studies throughout his life that helped him reflect their emotions through expressionist closeups. Even while visiting exhibitions by senior artists, he would pay special attention to face studies and make notes. The intense cross-hatching on this face lends it profound vigour, in ; especially noticeable are the forehead furrows, deep eyes and bulbous lips. The eyes particular, betray the goings on in the mind of the individual—he appears restless, full of questions and desirous of achieving something close to his heart.
