This study of a woman resting on a settee in her boudoir is another Altaf drawing with a remarkable cubist influence. Painted during the days when he was an art student in London, this drawing showcases the young artist’s command over the pencil, playing with the thickness of the line at his will. The details on the woman’s person are deliberately left vague—except for her body contours—while the pieces of furniture in the room are accorded more well-delineated outlines. This composition appears to be one of several studies of life models that Altaf did at art school.
