An artist must compulsorily doodle, sketch, scratch the paper with the pencil, make some lines, let them run amok, take shapes as they please… in short, must do something to feel his/her lifeline on a daily basis. Altaf, we can safely assume, must have followed the routine throughout his life, even on days bereft of inspiration. This graphite sketch on paper, featuring three cloaked figures, alludes to a day when the artist must have sketched this as preparatory groundwork for a painting, in the process imbuing these figures with life.
