What does this tiny cardboard with an even tinier painting tell us? Of course, there’s a story that the artist wants to share. But more importantly, the cardboard tells us about the technical perfection Altaf had attained in his art by the time he came to execute this immersive painting. To create a rich narrative on this scale—the sheer number of figures he has created is overwhelming—must require an astounding command over skill, over the control of thick and thin lines, over positioning of figures on a scale. As for the narrative, it appears to be a snapshot of a busy public place where people are primarily relaxing and making merry, involving some music and dance as well.
