Two imposing figures occupy this work by Altaf. Both are seated, one of them on a box, clearly in a makeshift arrangement. They seem to be in silent vigil, the stick protruding on one of their sides suggests a readiness for action. They seem prepared for an extended duration. With minimal contextual cues, the viewer is left to speculate on their purpose. Perhaps they are guards, positioned in anticipation of the arrival of someone significant. Altaf’s portrayal captures a moment of stillness and anticipation, inviting one to engage in the narrative beyond the temporal and visual frame of the work.
