Altaf here captures a man, reminiscent of a wandering faqir with a deliberately distorted face that evokes the impression of a blurred photograph; perhaps the distortion represents a disregard for physical appearance and thus a detachment from societal expectations. Through his etching, alternating between precise and unclear strokes, Altaf represents motion and transience. The suggestion of the man holding onto something with one hand, perhaps a stick, adds to the overall uncertainty. The composition seems to represent time and its passage, as also wisdom, beyond physical appearances.
