Altaf was a restless twenty-two year-old in London studying at Central Saint Martins art school when he made this Untitled work. Though young, he was a socially sensitive and politically aware artist whose political consciousness was chiselled by the atmosphere in London, where he participated in various marches and demonstrations concerning the world’s poor, deprived, wronged, and destitute. This drawing, featuring an assemblage of emaciated and skeletal birds of prey feeding upon the helpless, is a succinct comment by the young artist on the state of global socio-political upheaval in the 1960s.
