Altaf, though born in an affluent family with indulgent elder siblings, including artist Nasreen Mohamedi, was highly inspired by Marxist ideologies. From early on, his proclivities lay with those who suffered, either at the hands of unjust socio-political ways, or privately in their minds with existential questions. This ink drawing maps a landscape of suffering as evident with the twisted and horrific visages of the represented figures. The narrative of the powerful preying upon the weak is depicted through a bare-branched tree, skeletal limbs and bare-bodied female figures with their arms stretched out for help.
