This undated sketch by Altaf, done in pen, seems to be an incidental doodle expressing flighty thoughts in the artist’s mind. Drawn at the very last page of a notebook, the artist has created several figures visualising different stances of idleness, or aimless wonder. The lines are fluid, unrushed and calm, hinting at the rather pacific state of the artist’s mind. As is evident from his journals that he maintained between 1963 and ’73, he would often have periods of intense activity followed by those of relative rest. This Untitled drawing seems to have been born in the latter period.
