Altaf wrote extensively in his journals where he talked about numerous things, the books he read, the movies he watched, the cricket matches he attended, the art galleries and the exhibitions he went to, etc. This is a leaf from Altaf’s journal featuring these words placed between two panels of doodling. ‘These lines rush in madness – without concern of either form or its end. But no, no, the end is unimportant – only the means matter – the end is inevitable – it creeps in unseen, like a thief, helped curiously by unknown powers.’ For Altaf, a creative faculty and self-reflexivity was central to his creativity. He believed that ‘Art is born out of a natural compromise between intellect and humanism.’
