While living in London, before returning to India, Altaf travelled in Europe, travelling through various cities and countries. He was evidently taken with European landscapes, making sketches of the places he visited. This sketch is clearly rendered en plein air. While the buildings behind are rendered in a realistic manner, the landscape in front, the tree in the foreground, and the bushes are shown in a stylised manner.
