Composition in Colour

This composition with different gradations of colour is an alluring work in abstraction. Made in London, it shows Altaf’s ability to experiment with colours and the ideas and influences that he encountered while a student. Horizontal colour bands with white, yellow, red, and black lines running through them make up the composition. In an exhibition held at Jehangir Art Gallery in the 1980s, Altaf had written in the catalogue: ‘Meanderings through art are my explorations, my concerns, my commitments’ where ‘continual failures and continual struggles is natural—but what must hold is the sincerity of my efforts’.
