Colour field abstractionist Natvar Bhavsar moved from Gujarat to the U. S. in the 1960s, carrying his love of colour and affinity for scale with him. ABHDYAA’s textures and colours with its varying use of depth are seen as showing an ‘asteroid connectiveness’. His works not only represent a universal philosophical quest but also allow each viewer the process of individual interpretation. One marvels at how the neutral colour palette can sow seeds of doubt and plant ideas of clarity all at once—do the near-white swirls represent spiritual transcendence or earthly desires that take over one’s entire being, much like the colour taking over the canvas?
