Manifestations, our by-now signature exhibition showcasing the very best of modern Indian art, appears this winter in its landmark tenth edition, bringing together seventy-five of India’s best-known and most established modernist artists. The artworks are grouped by genre into the categories of mythology, landscape, still-life, figurative, narrative and abstract art, and present the mature styles of the participating artists. The exhibition features prominent Indian modernists, led by former progressives M. F. Husain, S. H. Raza and S. K. Bakre, participating with works on the themes of the Mahabharata, the bindu, and a cubist landscape, respectively. They lead to signature-style works by senior artists such as N. S. Bendre, Ramkinkar Baij, Bikash Bhattacharjee, Ganesh Pyne, Satish Gujral, Jeram Patel, K. Laxma Goud, Rabin Mondal and Chittaprosad. The Bengal School is represented by its proponent Abanindranath Tagore and by its practitioner in Rajasthan, Ramgopal Vijaivargiya. The unique branch of modernism that flowered at Santiniketan is featured in this collection with a work on the Buddha by Nandalal Bose, and his two students, Benode Behari Mukherjee and Ramkinkar Baij.
